A Morning of Magic and Insight at The Connaught Theatre.
In the heart of Worthing, The Connaught Theatre stands as a beacon of culture, entertainment, and community. Recently, our team had the pleasure of spending a morning led by the charismatic and multi-talented Robb Williams, the brilliant Senior Duty Manager, who also wears the hats of an actor and director.
From film to digital
The focus of our enlightening morning was the fascinating transition from film to digital in the realm of cinema. Our trainees, were taken on an immersive journey behind the scenes, exploring the intricacies of this cinematic evolution. Robb Williams guided us through the front of the house area, unravelling the secrets and stories that make every visit to The Connaught a unique experience.
Marketing and the wider group
The marketing team shared insights into the complex web of responsibilities involved in running a multifaceted establishment like Worthing Theatres and Museums which seamlessly combines a theatre, museum, and cinema across several venues in the town. We gained a deeper understanding of the considerations and challenges that come with managing it as a charity, making us appreciate the dedication required to keep the cultural flame alive.
Lighting, set building and behind the scenes
One of the highlights of the morning was the eye-opening session with the lighting and rigging team. Their explanations about the behind-the-scenes work when touring companies arrive with their elaborate sets left us in awe. The sheer amount of effort that goes into building and dismantling sets, even for one-night shows, showcased the unsung heroes who make the magic happen.
As we listened to these passionate professionals, our trainees found inspiration bubbling within. The various roles available in a theatre, from the limelight of the stage to the hidden realms of set construction and marketing, sparked a newfound interest. The veil was lifted on the diverse opportunities awaiting those eager to dive into the world of performing arts.
Our partnership
Our connection with The Connaught Theatre runs deep, and we're immensely proud to work alongside such a dedicated team. For the second consecutive year, our trainees are undertaking the exciting task of designing a star dressing room for the upcoming pantomime, "Sleeping Beauty." This hands-on experience provides a unique chance for our trainees to contribute their creativity to the vibrant tapestry of The Connaught.
But our collaboration doesn't end there. We've organised work experiences for Saturday morning cinema sessions and have a cadre of eager trainees volunteering to lend a helping hand during the much-anticipated pantomime. The warmth and inclusivity of Worthing Theatres and Museum team have turned it into a welcoming community space, where creativity thrives, and dreams take centre stage.
A huge thanks to Robb Williams and his team for opening their doors and hearts to our trainees. The morning was more than just a lesson; it was a journey into the enchanting world of theatre, leaving us inspired, motivated, and eager to play our part in the ongoing story of Worthing Theatres and Museums.
What they say…
"We absolutely love working with the Sand Project. The commitment and dedication from their team is evident. From the wonderful products they supply us with throughout the year, to the hard working volunteers that come and support us each panto season. This is hopefully just the beginning of a long partnership between our organisations."
